Swiss Post Box – your electronic mailbox for physical post. How does it work?

  1. If you register for Swiss Post Box, you will receive at least one new correspondence address (e.g. Zürcherstrasse 161, 8010 Zurich), which you can indicate selectively and intentionally to your potential correspondence partners (e.g. insurance company, credit card company, tax office, etc.).
  2. In future the correspondence partner will send you the letters to the new correspondence address. As soon as a letter arrives for you, we scan the closed envelope and send you an image of the envelope by e-mail - the original remains safe and sealed with us.

  3. In the received e-mail you choose directly what we should do with the physical letter:
  • Open & Scan“: We open the letter and scan the content for you, which you will receive on the following day.
  • „Recycle“: We dispose of the letter in an environmentally-friendly manner (within 48 hours).
  • „Shred“: We destroy the letter and make the information unrecognisable (within 48 hours).
  • „Ship“: We send the closed letter to you at any location of your choice.

Special case: holiday mailforwarding

Do you want to have online access to your letter post only when you are on holiday?

  1. Set up a Swiss Post Box “Single Easy” once and for all (no basic monthly fee!). During the registration process choose a physical redirection address in your home country at one of our processing centres (e.g. Joe Bloggs, SwissPost 92731, Zürcherstrasse 161, 8010 Zurich).

  2. 3-5 days before your well-earned holiday set up a temporary forwarding order from your home address to the Swiss Post Box redirection address. You can normally set up the temporary forwarding order at your local post office or usually also online* (where?). As soon as the temporary forwarding order is activated, we will receive your letters directly in our Swiss Post Box processing centre and can scan the incoming letters for you daily. You then decide easily and conveniently what we should do with your letters during your holiday (scan contents, dispose, redirect or store). This means you can check your letter post simply and conveniently online from anywhere and at any time.

    *Please note: Normally the temporary activation of a forwarding order lasts between 3 to 5 days, depending on the country. Setup temporary forwarding online in:

Special case: permanent redirection

Do you want to redirect all letter post from your home address to the Swiss Post Box address? This makes sense in particular if you own a holiday home or travel a lot.
Please note: With permanent redirection we also receive magazines and packages which we cannot scan in the Swiss Post Box. These often have to be physically forwarded, which is associated with additional costs!

  1. Set up your Swiss Post Box and choose a corresponding physical redirection address at one of our processing centres.

  2. At your local post office set up permanent redirection from your home address to your Swiss Post Box redirection address. These are usually associated with additional costs:

Please note: We do not recommend permanent redirection to the Swiss Post Box for the following reasons:

  • Additional costs when redirecting packages.
  • Sometimes it is difficult and there is a delay if you physically send yourself something from the Swiss Post Box to your home address. Normally we contact you via the customer service department to deliver to another address because permanent redirection is set up for your home address.
  • Newspapers and magazines, which often do not need to be scanned, also arrive in our processing centre. Forwarding also leads to additional costs. lls zusätzliche Kosten.
